“We’re arguing we can publish the book while she’s saying that she has a monopoly on reference guides related to Harry Potter,” says Roger Rapoport, who owns RDR Books. Ms. Rowling’s side argues that describing the book as a “reference guide” is a misnomer because Mr. Vander Ark’s work restates material found in the original Harry Potter novels without adding new insight.

“Ms. Rowling stated in court papers that she intends to write her own “definitive guide” and will donate the royalties to charity.”

I hardly believe Rowling would go to court only to protect her future charity donations, but if that’s the case then go Robin Hood, any other way I believe she should be glad she has fans who might further increase the lifespan of Harry Potter in ways such as this. I wonder how Rowling expects Mr. Vander Ark to add new insight to his reference work when all he has to go on is in the novels?
